The fashion show, free and open to the public, highlighted the Rockettes' marketing partnership with Macy's, and at the same time represented a break from the green-velvet-clad image of the Rockettes. Six Rockettes, who are performing in the Boston run of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the Citi Performing Arts Wang Theatre through December 29, walked through the hotel lobby and onto a runway set up in the W Lounge with Christmas music playing in the background. Mix 104.1 radio personality Fast Freddy served as M.C.
Stylist Lydia Santangelo pulled clothes and shoes from Macy's and paired them with accessories from the W's store to create three fashion vignettes inspired by scenes from Christmas Spectacular, but with a rock 'n' roll twist. "We wanted to meld and fuse trends with the Rockette brand," Santangelo said of the more than a dozen looks she created. "It was important to educate the guests that you can shop like you're at a boutique at Macy's."
The W's seasonal decor set the backdrop for the event, and Christmas Spectacular branding came in the form of video footage projected on the lounge's floor-to-ceiling white columns. Sponsor logos—including Macy's and Mix 104.1's—took the place of the typical daily schedule on the events reader in the hotel lobby.
